Police are searching for at least two suspects responsible for the incident at the home of Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.
The family was home and asleep when the break-in happened around 5:00 a.m. Saturday. One burglar did make it into the house but fled before police arrived. It is unclear whether anything was taken, but the family was unharmed.
The Chester County District Attorney's Office is assisting the authorities in Tredyffrin Township with the investigation.
Police Captain Tyler Moyer reported that the family is "unsettled, as anyone would be."
"That kind of situation is something that stays with anybody for a long time," he said.
It is unclear if this incident is related to the earlier break-ins by Chilean gang members into the homes of other high-profile athletes, including Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
In May, Argentine police arrested three suspects who were among seven Chilean citizens charged in February 2025 by a federal court in Florida for conspiracy to transport stolen property across state lines. A press release from the Middle District of Florida identified the individuals as members of a South American theft group suspected of being behind the 2024 burglaries of the Kansas City Chiefs stars.
The gang also targeted National Basketball Association players Luka Doncic and Mike Conley Jr. They reportedly stole over $2 million worth of valuables while the athletes were away playing games; the thieves knew the athletes were not home because they posted their schedules and travel plans publicly.
Moyer showed sympathy to the celebrities, saying, "I feel bad for these guys that they have to deal with things like this."
In Barkley's case, police have released an image of a white SUV that may have been involved in the attempted break-in, and they are asking the public to help by checking home security footage near the time of the incident.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
