Arrested Chilean suspects connected to burglaries of famous athletes

Internationally, police are still trying to put an end to the Chilean gang behind the burglaries of famous athletes' homes.

Fox News reports Argentine police arrested three Chilean citizens who are suspected to be a part of the gang that has been behind the burglaries at the homes of well-known athletes. The arrests were made at a bus station in the Argentine capitol of Buenos Aires.

The arrests were a joint operation between Argentine and Chilean authorities, and the suspects have been transported to Chile where they might be extradited to the U.S.

Two of the suspects have been identified as Ignacio Zuniga Cartes and Bastian Jimenez Freraut, who were arrested previously for robbery of former tennis player Juan Martin Del Porto.

All three suspects were a part of seven Chilean citizens charged in February 2025 by a federal court in Florida for conspiracy to transport stolen property across state lines. A press release from the Middle District of Florida identify these individuals as member of a South American Theft Group.

The gang that the two are suspected of being tied to were behind the 2024 burglaries of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes' and Travis Kelce's houses. The gang also targeted well-known National Basketball Association players Luka Doncic and Mike Conley Jr.

According to ABC News, they stole over $2 million worth of valuables from these athletes while they were away playing games. Fox News says this was able to happen because the athletes posted their schedule and travel plans publicly.

Barbieri, Michael (security expert) Barbieri

Local Fox News affiliate FOX4 Kansas City reported on the charges from last year and spoke with security expert Mike Barbieri. Barbieri says the way that the suspects were caught is not surprising as they are taking pictures of their crimes (featured above).

“They can't resist the temptation of being famous, okay? All these guys do the same thing. You take a look at all these other criminals, they're always taking pictures of themselves with guns, with jewelry, the one guy has a picture of his wrist with the watch on it that they stole,” says Barbieri. “I mean, come on, that's what they do because they're not Harvard graduates.”
