A federal judge dismissed a Justice Department lawsuit against California's policy allowing transgender athletes to compete on girls’ teams, citing administrative funding rules, reports OutKick.
State officials point out that fewer than 10 transgender student-athletes compete across millions of California students. But critics argue the policy undermines equal opportunity and athlete safety.
Macy Petty Charles is a former athlete turned political legislative strategist with Concerned Women for America.
“California is just completely determined to force women to compete against men, and obviously, that's very discriminatory under Title IX, but also raises a lot of safety issues. I know how dangerous it is to play against a man,” Charles states.
Charles played volleyball at Lee University, where she competed against a biological male for four years.
The decision, she says, runs counter to a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming Title IX’s protections based on biological sex.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is reviewing an appeal.
In the meantime, with fall sports starting up, Charles is urging supporters to speak out for female student-athletes.
“Everyone knows that this is wrong. Common sense says that this is wrong. So, stand up for the women, raise awareness of when there is a man competing in women's sports, and expose the cowards who are letting that happen. We have an election coming up. That'll be really important, and I think this will be on the minds of voters,” Charles says. “As Christians, we're called to be obedient and to speak truth and light, and so that's the best thing you can do for a female athlete.”
The DOJ says it remains committed to enforcing restrictions on transgender athletes in girls' sports as the legal challenge moves forward.
Also, at the beginning of this school year, the Trump administration is challenging Kansas Public Schools regarding their gender transition plans in an effort to enforce parental rights.
