Pro-life senator: Abortion and abortion pill are 'killing babies '

A U.S. senator is taking an unapologetic pro-life stance on abortion and the end of a baby’s heartbeat.

Discussing the abortion issue on the “Washington Watch” program, U.S. Sen. Katie Britt said abortions are “absolutely killing babies” and it’s okay to state that fact.

“I think we have to speak directly into that,” she said. “That is what makes the other side uncomfortable is the truth.”

Britt, an attorney who is serving her first term, has a 100 % pro-life rating with national pro-life groups.

She said taking a pro-life stance is not only a moral issue but also a free speech issue, since there is a First Amendment right to tell the truth.

An abortion, she told show host Tony Perkins, is the only medical procedure where “success” means ending a heartbeat.

In May, Sen. Britt co-sponsored the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act that bans federal family-planning grant money from going to abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood.

Sen. Britt also took aim at the dangerous abortion pill, and the ability to order it through the mail, which she said bypasses state laws in Alabama.

"When you're able to circumvent that state law by doing this, we have to do more,” she said. “It's not only taking the life of the unborn, it is putting women at risk, as well."

In coming weeks, Britt said, lawmakers will urge the U.S. Justice Department to crack down on mail-order abortion drugs.
