Joseph Strickland, a Catholic bishop punished by the Vatican after calling out powerful pro-abortion Democrats, has been honored by pro-life groups for his courageous stance.

Strickland, who lost his Tyler, Texas diocese late last year after challenging President Biden, was given the Pro-Life Recognition Award last week before the annual March for Life, according to a LifeNews.com article.

The annual National Prayer Service was hosted by Priests for Life; the National Pro-Life Religious Council; National Institute for Family and Life Advocates; and Catholics for Catholics.

Frank Pavone, of Priests for Life, tells AFN the Church is engaged in “wishful thinking” if its core beliefs are not shared with the world of politics.

“Here's where I really think it rubs some church leaders the wrong way: It's about applying the gospel to public policy,” Pavone says.

“We have got to create a nation that protects its youngest children,” Pavone further states. “If we can't do that, then we don't have a foundation of a civilized society anymore.”

Strickland criticized President Biden last year, calling him a “fake” Catholic, after the president claimed the Catholic Church supports abortion.

Before he criticized the president of the United States, Strickland told Nancy Pelosi in 2022 he would ban her from receiving communion “until she repents and stops advocating the murder of children.”

After Pope Francis relieved him of "pastoral governance," Strickland was asked by LifeSiteNews if he had been informed of the reason.

“The only answer I have to that is because forces in the Church right now don’t want the truth of the Gospel," Strickland commented.
