Pro-lifers in two states defend state law, strategize after funding loss

Pro-life activists in Indiana are rallying around strict abortion laws in The Hoosier State, where a lawsuit is challenging the new restrictions, while pro-lifers in Pennsylvania are rethinking their strategy after a popular program got defunded by their governor.

Mike Fichter, who leads Indiana Right to Life, predicts a lawsuit challenging an abortion law will get tossed and the pro-life red state can protect the unborn.

“The latest challenge is from a group that claims it violates their religious freedom,” Fichter says, which he calls “another obstacle” by the other side to fight the new law.

The lawsuit was filed by the ACLU on behalf of five anonymous residents and a group called Hoosier Jews For Choice.

In purplish-state Pennsylvania, the governor there is a Democrat, Josh Shapiro, who has defunded a state program that helped pregnant mothers. The state funding went to pregnancy centers, which are hated by abortion supporters, and the funding is now set to expire December 31.

Kevin Bagatta, who leads Real Alternatives, says the organization received those state funds that are now gone. But there is a plan.

“We have decided to pivot to a privately funded program,” he tells AFN.

The state program, which dates back decades, was helping thousands of pregnant women a year prepare for motherhood but now those funds are going to support abortion.
