Even rational people on the left were shocked at the news. Podcaster Joe Rogan was wrapping up an interview with actor Charlie Sheen.
Rogan: "So, this just happened. We just found out that Charlie Kirk got shot."
Sheen: "Murder for having a different opinion from somebody else. Different ideology from somebody else. Beliefs that didn’t align."
Both were disheartened to hear the news that he passed away.
However, there seems to be no cure for the radicals on the Left, like Matthew Dowd of MSNBC, who was immediately trying to pin this on the Right.
"We don't know if this was the supporter shooting their gun off in celebration or so we have no idea," Dowd said.
Rogan and Sheen watched the clip of Dowd, skeptical that anyone would believe this wasn’t an assassination because of a difference of opinion. They pointed to ideology as the reason someone would try to spin the story in the direction of blaming "a crazy Trump supporter with a gun going wacky."
Christian apologist Frank Turek was standing 25 feet from Kirk when the shot rang out.
"You can't forget anything about that day. We were together from the early morning, all the way to the shooting,” Turek says. “Getting them in the car is the most vivid as you can imagine."
He says that in the year since, radicals have upped their game. Turek quotes a survey that finds 25% of very liberal people think that it's okay to sometimes use violence to advance a political agenda.
"Most of this violence is obviously coming from the Left. They really can't argue their position reasonably and rationally. When you suppress the truth long enough, you're given over to a futile mind and depraved thinking," Turek states.
But he also quotes Joseph from Genesis, that what they mean for evil, God means for good.
"Well, TPUSA itself has quadrupled the number of pastors involved with it from about 3,000 to 12,000. It went from 2,000 high school chapters to requests for over 130,000. I don't know how many of them are established now,” Turek says. “I've gotten scores of people saying, 'I became a Christian because of Charlie Kirk. I want to do something for eternity for the kingdom.'"
