Dallas infant could be next casualty of 10 Day Rule

A struggling infant needs prayer and a life-giving decision from a Texas hospital.

Baby Legend was born in a Dallas hospital three months ago and now Kimberlyn Schwartz of Texas Right to Life tells AFN the infanat became unconscious at birth and has been on a ventilator.

“The ventilator is working. The treatment is working,” Schwartz says. “But the hospital is pressuring his parents to give up on him. The hospital has even considered taking away treatment against his mom and dad's will.”

That action is technically legal in red-state Texas because of a law known as the 10 Day Rule. It gives a hospital the authority to start the clock for loved ones to find another facility. That means the hospital makes life-and-death decisions, including in the case of Baby Legend.

“We have to pray that the hospital committee will agree that his life is a gift, and let him keep fighting, and that they won't start this 10-day countdown,” the pro-life activist summarizes.

During the current legislative session, Texas Right to Life has met with state legislators to address the issue of the 10 Day Rule.
