Pro-life activists in Texas are preparing for a political showdown with abortion supporters in the halls of the state capital, and pro-lifers in neighboring Kansas are fighting promotion of Planned Parenthood.

State legislators in The Lone Star State will convene January 10 to get to work, and there is an expectation abortion supporters will flood lawmakers with attempts to roll back pro-life laws.

Kyleen Wright of the Texans for Life Coalition tells AFN the legislature is strongly pro-life but pro-abortion members are already filing bills to undermine existing laws.

“I don't know that they'll go very far,” she observes. “I just don't sense a great appetite from the legislature to revisit some of this right now.”

Among the pro-abortion supporters, state Rep. James Talarico is proposing a constitutional amendment on a future ballot that would roll back pro-life laws and guarantee abortion up to birth.

“It would require a two-thirds majority vote,” Wright points out, “and I can't imagine that happening.”

Not far to the north, pro-life warriors in Kansas City, Kansas are pleading with public officials over a tourism publication that includes a Planned Parenthood ad.

Ron Kelsey of Planned Parenthood Exposed tells AFN the group intends to address the issue with Mayor Tyrone Garner, whose executive oversight includes serving as CEO.

“And so this all falls under his responsibilities,” Kelsey says of the city mayor.

The challenge for pro-lifers in Kansas, he explains, is the state sadly has liberal abortion laws that make it an abortion destination. But there is no reason, he adds, a tourist brochure should advertise the killing of unborn babies.
