In fulfillment of a campaign promise, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (pictured) has ordered Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland to submit amendments to the Income Tax Act that will strip pro-life groups of their charitable tax status, claiming they provide dishonest counseling to pregnant women.
Pete Baklinski of the Campaign Life Coalition tells American Family News the purpose is to shut down those organizations.
"Most of them run off of donations," Baklinski points out. "They use that money to help pregnant women in crisis, they buy baby supplies, diapers, [and] baby food. They offer emotional support, counseling, and it's all done largely by grassroots donations."
Donors would no longer be able to take a tax deduction for the money they provide to pro-life groups. Trudeau complains such centers lie to pregnant women to convince them to have their child.
"These pro-life pregnancy centers tell women the truth about abortion," Baklinski asserts. "They tell them here's what abortion looks like, here's how it will affect you if you go through with this choice. They are providing nothing but honest, truthful counseling to these women, and they want nothing more than to help them and to help their babies."
So the real issue, Baklinski concludes, is the message of pro-life centers is contrary to that of Trudeau's Liberal Party.
