Davis: Gun owners realize everything can go away in one election

Davis: Gun owners realize everything can go away in one election

A national gun organization says it is pleased with the response of gun owners around the country about the importance of voting in next week's midterms.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) knows what is at stake these midterms. That is why in late August the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) launched its Gun Bus Battleground Tour, hitting key battleground states and battleground districts around the country urging Second Amendment rights supporters to vote.

Davis, Justin (NRA) Davis

Justin Davis, the director of public affairs for the NRA, says the president is actively pushing the gun issue from the White House.

For example, CBS News recently reported that President Donald Trump asked the Justice Department not to appeal a court ruling allowing Americans to "possess or sell short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and silencers with less government oversight."

The Justice Department has also announced a new federal regulation and process that will restore federal firearm rights to those who are eligible but are prohibited from possessing firearms. However, the restoration is not automatic, nor will it be guaranteed due to certain factors that must be met for the applicants.

"Folks are fired up, right? Across the country, gun owners recognize that President Trump and pro-gun politicians are finally delivering on true gun control victories here… People are very pleased with what they're seeing out there, and they realize that can all go away in one election," Davis states.

Davis says you only have to be reminded what happened in Virginia last year with the election of anti-gun Democrat Gov. Abigail Spanberger, who has signed a bunch of restricting gun legislation since she entered office.

"We saw in Virginia how quickly things can go from a pro-gun paradise to a gun control nightmare in the span of a few months. I think that's been a good lesson for folks to not sit on the sidelines and to get involved," Davis states.

Meanwhile, they are wrapping up the gun bus tour in Texas, he says.

"That's a massive, massive Senate race with James Talarico versus Ken Paxton. We've been down there for a week. We're there through Election Day," Davis says.

According to NewsNation, Democrat James Talarico claims he supports Texans' right to keep and bear arms but says the Second Amendment is not absolute and supports a ban on assault weapons.
