In its exclusive story, The New York Post first reported on the study commissioned by Health and Human Services that comes from researchers at Rutgers University; right-leaning think tank Manhattan Institute; and the Network Contagion Research Institute, a nonprofit that studies political violence and extremism.
For its study, the researchers surveyed approximately 1,200 adults about their views on affirming “gender identity” by also asking their views on targets of political violence, including the late Charlie Kirk, President Donald Trump, and murdered health insurance CEO Brian Thompson.
The Post explains the responses were used to gauge what is known as “Left-Wing Authoritarianism,” the belief among the Left that justifies violence against the Right to defend “democracy” or to stop “fascism.”
Using the data from respondents, the researchers created what they call a “Clinical Gender Affirmation Scale” to track the correlation between support for gender ideology and support for violence.
The study is titled “Where the Clinic Meets the Movement: Does Gender Ideology Arm Left-Wing Authoritarian Psychology?”
The short answer to that clinical question is, yes, it does.
Some anecdotal evidence is the behavior of transgender people themselves, such as the famous “It is ma’am!” violent tantrum in a GameStop store in 2018. In that incident, a man named “Jennifer” went on a rampage after being “misgendered” by a sales clerk.
A more recent example, from 2025, happened at the University of Central Florida when campus police were called to a disturbance involving a blue-haired male student. The student, who was pepper-sprayed, tased, and arrested, screamed “She! She! when the officer referred to him as “he” on his police radio.
The study itself focused on defending gender-related violence, not violence committed by transgender people, so a better example is the Left’s reaction to the 2023 murder of students and teachers (pictured at left) at a Nashville private school, Covenant School. That school killer, who was killed on the scene by responding police officers, was a former Covenant student named Audrey Hale, 28.
Hale, who planned the attack and called it “DEATH DAY” in her diary, was described as the victim of a Christian school and strict Christian parents in liberal news stories. A story by The Daily Mail said Hale had been “rejected” by her parents. A similar NBC News story spun the mass shooting to suggest the “trans community” was fearing a backlash.
Trans activists also announced they were planning a “Trans Day of Vengeance” to defend Hale, and Democrats in the Tennessee legislature pivoted from a trans killer to the AR-15 Hale used in the fatal attack.
Among the names used in the study, Charlie Kirk was discussing the issue of trans violence with a student when he was assassinated almost a year ago, September 15, 2025.
Kirk's murder has been celebrated and defended online by teachers, politicians, medical personnel, and members of the military.
