The poll of 1,003 registered voters found 59% of Democrats hold a favorable view of Democratic Socialists of America, the national communist-lite organization that is growing its membership and influence.
That favorable polling, roughly two out of three Democrats, was reflected in the poll even after the DSA announced a revolutionary platform to abolish the U.S. Senate, and to allow a Politburo-like Congress to choose the U.S. president and the justices on the U.S. Supreme Court.
DSA announced that new platform in mid-July at its annual convention, where its leaders announced their membership had surpassed 120,000 members.
Founded in 1982 by Michael Harrington, a political science professor and author, Democratic Socialists of America has mirrored Europe’s move toward social democracy that hit corporations with heavy regulations and heavily taxed the wealthy.
Despite being compared to communists, the original DSA bylaws condemned “democratic centralism” in other nations. That phrase was known by the Left as criticism of authoritarian regimes, such as the Soviet Union and China, which were once denounced by the DSA.
Since he died in 1989, Harrington was not alive to witness DSA members vote in 2025 to drop the anti-communist bylaws that ejected members who advocated for communism.
Besides overhauling the political system in Washington, the current DSA platform also demands a 32-hour work week, “Medicare for All” free health care, cancelling student debt, and blanket amnesty for illegal aliens.
A related Fox News poll question, about a favorable view of socialism, found 52% of Democrats hold a favorable view compared to only 11% of Republicans. Asked about capitalism, the poll found 61% of Republicans hold a favorable view of capitalism compared to 41% of Democrats.
The poll purposely oversampled young people age 18-29 by about 200 voters, Fox News said, likely because that demographic is the main voting bloc embracing the DSA and socialism.
With the November elections coming, and a narrow GOP majority at stake, 68% of Democrats said they are motivated to vote compared to 57% of Republicans.
Describing the DSA and its plans, author and talk show host Rob Maness told American Family Radio abolishing the Senate and reorganizing the House of Representatives is an important step toward dictatorship.
"They want to have one main legislature that doesn't do anything, a committee that runs the country, and a chairman that can be called the ‘president’ to be the head of state,” he said.
All those plans sound “very familiar” to people who know their world history, Maness warned, because communists must replace the democratically elected legislature to consolidate power.
“That's why the president was right to call them communists,” Maness told show host Walker Wildmon.
