The anti-Trump Left – that's the real threat, says Bauer

The Left has clearly been doing everything it can to derail Donald Trump's presidential ambitions for a second term. But Jack Smith's latest salvo, says Gary Bauer, uses some extremely dangerous rhetoric.

The Left has been fearmongering the electorate about the dangers of a second Trump term, even to the point of trying to block his name from being permitted on a couple of state primary ballots. Also among his antagonists is Special Counsel Jack Smith (pictured above), who is investigating alleged election interference against the former president in connection with the Capitol riots of January 6, 2021.

On December 30, Smith filed an 80-page court document arguing that Trump does not have immunity from crimes he may have committed on that day. The filing asked an appeals court to reject Trump's claim of immunity, stating that under such broad immunity "the nation would have no recourse to deter a president from inciting his supporters during a State of the Union address to kill opposing lawmakers to ensure that he remains in office unlawfully."

According to Gary Bauer of American Values, the diehard anti-Trumpers are coming unhinged. "The American Left right now literally is collectively going insane," he tells AFN. "And they're deploying and employing rhetoric that is going to push the country into an abyss."

Bauer warns that the anti-Trump vitriol goes beyond what might be considered "run-of-the-mill" political language because it is essentially an attack on Trump's supporters.

"It is a huge mistake to think that they're doing this because they're suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome," says Bauer. "They hate him – and they feel the same way about the 75-million-plus Americans who support him."

And while Joe Biden is trying to convince the American electorate that Trump and the Republican Party represent a threat to democracy, Bauer argues the political prosecutions and attempted de-balloting of the former president are the real threats to democracy.

"The whole experiment in 'liberty under God' that was won at places like Valley Forge – all of that is at risk," he warns.
