The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability this week released a video and bank records that allegedly show Joe Biden received a $40,000 payment in 2017 that came from a Chinese energy company. Biden received the payment in the form of a personal check that called it a "loan repayment." It was made out to Joseph R. Biden Jr. from the personal account of his brother, James Biden, and sister-in-law Sara Biden.
The Wednesday revelation comes after last week’s House committee announcement that the President received $200,000 from his brother and sister-in-law in the same fashion.
The $200,000, according to bankruptcy court records, came in 2018 from a failing rural hospital operator, Americore, which sought an influx of cash through Biden’s connections in the Middle East.
On March 1, 2018, Americore wired a $200,000 loan into James and Sara Biden’s personal bank account – not their business bank account. On the same day, James Biden wrote a $200,000 check from this same personal bank account to Joe Biden, according to a committee news release.
James Biden received these loans, the GOP-led committee stated, “based upon representations that his last name, ‘Biden,’ could ‘open doors’ and that he could obtain a large investment from the Middle East based on his political connections.”
The 2018 check from Americore was also labeled for “loan repayment.”
“Whether it was a loan or not doesn't matter,” Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Kentucky) told the Washington Watch program Wednesday, the same day the allegation hit.
“I don't believe it was," Comer said, referring to the claim of a loan repayment. "But either Joe Biden was paid $240,000 in a kickback or he didn't lose $240,000 that he loaned to his brother. Either way, he's a quarter of a million dollars better off because of the influence-peddling scheme.”
On the debate state in 2020, Biden told Donald Trump several times he had no knowledge of son Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings, an a claim that House investigators have debunked.
Comer’s committee in May announced a vast network of foreign shell companies in a multi-million dollar scheme that enriched nine Biden family members.
The most prominent among the family members who profited was Hunter Biden.
“The bank records show the Biden family, their associates, and their companies received over $10 million from foreign nationals and their companies,” Comer said at the time. “The Bidens have received millions of dollars from China. It is inconceivable that the president did not know it.”
After House Democrats obediently sat on Biden bank records while in the majority, Comer had led the charge in the House Oversight Committee ever since Republicans won the majority in January, now 10 months ago.
Comer said Biden has been caught in numerous lies to the American people:
- He acted like his son’s laptop was Russian disinformation.
- He said his family never took money from China.
- He said that none of the money that his family received reached them while he was vice president.
- He said he never met with or spoke to the people who sent his family money.
When a 'shell company' becomes a boring topic
As the evidence against Biden mounts, Comer says the question is whether the liberal national media will move the goalposts of accountability.
“We've got a situation here where this President hasn't been honest with the American people and the media continues to turn a blind eye,” Comer said. “To have oversight and accountability, the media has to play a role and it’s like pulling teeth to get the media to cover this."
Back in May, Comer (pictured below) and other GOP lawmakers held a 40-minute press conference on Capitol Hill to describe the shell company scandal: $10 million dollars moved through 14 shell companies to the bank accounts of seven Biden family members other than Joe Biden.
AFN reported at the time the liberal media openly ignored the evidence presented right in front of it, and an Associated Press story claimed the Republicans did not present any evidence. The same AP story failed to quote any other Republicans who spoke and it wasn't even clear from Comer's quote that he spoke at a press conference
During that same press conference, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) all but pleaded with the news media to pay attention to the scandalous allegations right in front of them.
"Guys, you in the press, this is easy pickings," Donalds said. "I'm giving you Pulitzer [Prize] stuff here."
Even before House Republicans unveiled the shell company scam, the American public knew Joe Biden was nicknamed the "Big Guy" by at least two former business partners. One of them, Tony Bobulinski, famously accused Joe Biden of pocketing 10% from Hunter Biden's business deals.
It has been pointed out this week that Joe Biden's $40,000 "loan repayment" is 10% of the check that hit his brother's bank account.
Since the evidence against Joe Biden could not go completely ignored, what Democrats and the national media have frequently done since May is stick to a White House-approved script. Any allegation of wrongdoing falls on Hunter Biden, who was a drug addict at the time. Any mention of Joe Biden is described in sympathetic terms.
"They are going to try to indict a father for loving his son, who has been addicted to drugs and/or alcohol, without evidence of the father doing anything other than loving that son," Claire McCaskill told MSNBC in July.
"I will tell you what the president has been guilty of," Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) said at a September hearing. "He has unfortunately been guilty of loving his child unconditionally, and that is the only evidence that they have brought forward."
On the "Washington Watch" program, Comer said the national media demanded evidence that Joe Biden himself benefitted from his son's foreign business deals. That has now been accomplished.
"They continue to move the goalposts," Comer said of the media, "but I think every American’s keeping up with it and they know that this is public corruption."
