Real Clear Politics' compilation of Democratic presidential preference polls shows Robert F. Kenney Jr. currently polling at 14%, which is 50 points behind President Joe Biden.
Jenna Ellis says Kennedy is currently viewed as a Democratic outsider, much like Donald Trump was viewed as a Republican outsider in 2016.
"The really interesting left field (no pun intended) factor for the Democrats is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his enormous popularity within the party and his appeal to moderates and Independents, and even some Republicans who in some states can vote in open primaries," she submits.
In what she calls a "firebrand media tour," Ellis points out that some of Kennedy's video appearances have gone viral "and were actually censored on YouTube," which tells her that some of the leftist powers that be "are afraid of what questions he's asking and what positions he holds."
"I think that all of this will go into the calculation for the Democrats," she adds.
As for the talk of Kennedy running as a third party or Independent candidate, Ellis observes that he has not signaled "in any way" that that is off the table.
"He has openly criticized his own party for ways that … they have gone too extremist," the attorney notes. "He's more of an old style, truly the Kennedy family sort of Democrat, and so if he believes that that's the best way to go, I don't see him shying away from that prospect."
If he does go that route, she thinks it would be "a major game-changer."
