Congress is taking action to allow male prisoners, who claim they are women, to be housed in female prisons, and a critic of the move says liberal lawmakers are choosing pro-LGBT ideology over women’s safety.

Some far-left state governments such as California and Washington are already transferring male prisoners, who say they are transgender women, to a women’s facility, but Mary Beth Waddell of the Family Research Council says passage of The Equality Act in Congress could make it a federal law.

“You know, The Equality Act is so expansive in its placement of sexual orientation and gender identity, throughout the civil rights framework and non-discrimination laws," she warns, "that not being able to discriminate in the placement of prisons.”

The proposed Violence Against Women Act, which is designed to protect women, also has a provision that transgender people should be placed where they identify.

According to Waddell, far-left lawmakers are putting transgender ideology ahead of common sense and safety.

“Some of these men are sexual predators,” she says. “They're in prison for sexual crimes and rape of women, and these different things, and they're going into prisons and doing the same things to inmates who can't get away.”

Waddell concludes it's time for state and federal lawmakers to drop their ideology leanings long enough to protect incarcerated women.
