It was all smiles on The Today Show on NBC the morning after the election.
“The margins are, to some extent, one of the biggest headlines. One Republican strategist calling it a bloodbath last night,” one host said.
And in a theme echoed in almost every liberal media outlet, it was a bad day for President Donald Trump, in this case ABC's World News Tonight.
“Overnight, a stunning sweep for Democrats and a rejection of candidates backed by President Trump.”
“As always, ABC’s Good Morning America led the way in liberal sycophancy. It started from the outset with co-host and former Clinton official George Stephanopoulos making sure to brand Sherrill and Spanberger as “centrist Democrats” in contrast to “democratic socialist” Mamdani. Chief investigative correspondent Aaron Katersky was enthralled with Mamdani triggering ‘a political earthquake that energized’ the city,” MRC’s Curtis Houck wrote.
When it came to Zohran Mamdani, the media was less bubbly.
Tim Graham of Media Research Center says the New York City mayor's race was top of mind for most outlets, but the optimism was a bit guarded.
Conservatives have warned of an approaching train wreck from Mamdani’s socialist policies: rent freezes, expanded tenant protections, city-run grocery stores, free public transit, universal child care and more.
“The media are a little like the Democrats. They're excited that Mamdani was elected, but they have a little trepidation about him being the face of the Democrats,” Graham said.
Democrats fear Republicans are right about Mamdani. It’s not that they dislike his policies. It's just they know it will eventually spell disaster for Democrats.
“There is certainly a danger that this is going to lead to the government failing there,” Graham said.
As usual, it was the late-night hosts that gave the Left's unfiltered take.
“I'm being told just now that they've already changed the poem on the Statue of Liberty. I'm not crying, you're crying,” host Stephen Colbert said.
