During his first term, President Trump almost constantly sparred with mainstream outlets over their dishonest coverage of him. He has been more civil this time around, perhaps because his new press secretary has taken up the cause.
In yesterday's press briefing, Leavitt named names and brought the receipts.
"The mainstream media still doesn't get it. Last night, MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace disgustingly looped in a 13-year-old boy with brain cancer into an attack on the president over January 6th," she chided.
DJ Daniel, who has been fighting brain cancer for half his life, dreams of being a police officer. President Trump invited him to Tuesday's speech, and when he directed the audience's attention to the child, the director of the Secret Service presented him a badge and honorary membership into the Service. "I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump supporters," Wallace commented. "And if he does, I hope he isn't one of the six who loses his life to suicide."
Wallace was not the only MSNBC host with criticism. Rachel Maddow found it "disgusting" that President Trump honored Daniel, and "Morning Joe" co-host Joe Scarborough said the speech was full of "so much nonsense."
Leavitt also noted CNN's response.
"CNN's first chyron out of the speech called it divisive. President Trump wasn't divisive; the Democrats were," the press secretary asserted. "CNN was proven wrong by their own viewers, 69% of whom in a post-speech poll said they had a positive reaction to the president's speech."
Leavitt also held up a printed copy of a CBS News/YouGov snap poll that showed 76% of Americans "approved" of the speech.
Before taking questions, she took one more shot at the Left, saying, "It's sad and frankly pathetic that Democrats and liberals and the legacy media continue to allow their hatred for the president to override their love for our country."
She called Trump's speech "historic" and "record-breaking" and said Americans "loved what they heard" from a president who has never been more popular as he exceeds expectations and fulfills his promises.
