Media reaction to Trump conviction: Childish cheerleading and threatening lectures

The liberal news media, infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome, could hardly contain its collective glee last week when Donald Trump was convicted last week by a New York City jury, according to a media watchdog.

Curtis Houck, of the Media Research Center, says he saw headlines proclaiming “Justice!” and “No one is above the law” after Trump was convicted.

“They are excited and thrilled beyond belief here at this,” he says of the media reaction.

Houck and MRC documented several examples, such as “The View” co-host Joy Behar claiming she lost control of her bladder after hearing the verdict.

Others in the media, Houck says, did an Oscar-worthy performance of a serious-minded journalist.

“You have other people,” Houck says, “that are pretending to be solemn, like this is a very serious thing, and they wish it didn't come to this, but here we are.”

On MSNBC, for example, a panel of sober-looking Trump haters discussed the 34-count verdict as if Trump had been convicted of espionage or murder rather than falsified business records.

“The test for us now as a country,” Rachel Maddow lectured, “is whether or not this former president and his allies will have succeeded in trying to undermine the rule of law, so that people reject this as a legitimate function of the rule of law.”

After the verdict, MRC and Houck also documented a CBS News panel that described Trump voters as "dangerous" supporters with "cultish behavior."

John Dickerson, a CBS legal analyst, also complained that Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark) was "running down" the legal system after the Senator pointed out the partisan politics of the trial judge and the district attorney, Alvin Bragg.
