The Tennessee law bans hormone therapy, puberty blockers, and gender-mutilation surgeries for minors. The ACLU is suing the state saying it is denying gender-confused children needed medical treatments that their gender align with their feelings.
But the Family Research Council’s Owen Strachan said on Washington Watch Friday that’s an interpretation that twists God's miraculous design of men and women.
“Here's where a lot of Christians get confused. We are fed the idea that there is a distinction between sex and gender, but in reality, your sex, your God-given body, determines your identity,” Strachan said.
ACLU lawyers peppered their argument with euphemistic terms like "gender-affirming" care.
Strachan says giving puberty and hormone blockers is really gender-destroying care.
“The way to care for children who are going through what we call gender dysphoria, which is a real psychological condition, is not to affirm an 8-year-old that they are trapped in the wrong body and they need to now go through a chemical castration or a body ravaging surgery. The care we need to offer is always care that is in keeping with our sex, whether we are a boy or a girl," Strachan said.
Standing up to 'compassionate' bullies
He says Christians who want to stand up for the truth are often bullied or shamed into denying God's design. “Helping a child align their gender-identity with their true selves is the compassionate thing to do,” say those who don’t consider God’s design.
“We are not, as Christians, going to be out-compassioned here. Compassion is exactly why we're saying you must not operate on minors to warp their bodies,” Strachan said.
