Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim, says he will not be there while Police Commissioner Jessica Ticsh is proud to attend.
The Israel Day Parade is held each year along the famed Fifth Avenue in Manhattan to recognize the pride of New York City's Jewish community. Mamdani, who is ultimately in charge of security at the parade, will be the first mayor in 60 years not to march.
“I said on the campaign trail that I wouldn't be attending the parade, and I've made my views on the Israeli government abundantly clear. And I don't believe that my presence as the mayor should determine whether or not a New Yorker is safe or secure,” he said.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch was adamant that she will be marching in the parade.
“It's the mayor's decision not to march, and it is my decision to march proudly,” she said.
Israeli advocate Lizzy Savetsky told Fox News that Mamdani got rid of safety protections for the Jewish community on his first day in office.
“He signed an executive order that got rid of our previous mayor, Eric Adams' executive order to create buffer zones outside of our religious institutions,” Savetsky said.
Gary Bauer of American Values told the Jenna Ellis in the Morning Show on AFR that Mamdani's absence is a warning sign of a deep evil descending on America.
“Anytime a country starts going down this road, that country is in deep, deep trouble. It's the canary in the coal mine. It is a warning that there is a sickness among us, and it's growing in strength every day,” he said.
