U.S. Rep. Randy Fine, who represents Florida’s 6th Congressional District, recently told "Washington Watch" that antisemitic people and organizations will not stop at Jewish people.
"Antisemitism is the first step of antiwesternism," he said. "They hate Jews, but they hate Christians, too. They hate Western values."
He explained that Jews are seen as an easy target because there are so few of them.
"There are fewer Jews in this world than there are people who live in Beijing, China," he pointed out. "But make no mistake: the people who are calling for damage to Jews—when they’re done with us, they're coming for the Christian community."
Fine also advised everyone to be mindful of the "After Saturday comes Sunday" slogan signifying that persecution of Christians will follow persecution of Jews.
Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council and host of "Washington Watch," agreed, saying that is not a theoretical statement but one based on historical fact.
"Just a few years ago, when I was chairing the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, we held a hearing on the rise of antisemitism in Europe at that time, and it's only gotten worse," said Perkins. "One of the testimonies we heard from a historical perspective is that antisemitism is the canary in the coal mine when it comes to hostility and intolerance toward Orthodox religion."
A "canary in the coal mine" is an old saying for an early warning sign of danger, failure or negative change.
"This is not just about antisemitism; I believe it's about anti-Judeo-Christian Western civilization," Fine reiterated. "That is the fight that we're up against, and we've got to fight it hard every day."
