Dr. Walter Wendler is president of West Texas A&M University, which is part of the Texas A&M University System in the Texas Panhandle.
The campus is home to approximately 10,000 students and a staff of 850.
Dr. Wendler told American Family Radio that students and staff know about his Christian faith. That doesn’t mean, he said, everyone has to agree with his views and his beliefs.
“I don’t tell everybody that they have to follow my moral compass," told the "Today's Issues" program. "But I want them to know – almost as a matter of being honest and transparent – this is what I believe.”
By being open about his faith, Wendler further explained, that helps hold him accountable to others for his actions and his leadership at the university.
After working in the Texas A&M system as a vice chancellor and a dean, Wendler served as chancellor at Southern Illinois University before returning to Texas to serve as president at the West Texas campus.
Dr. Wendler said he has been vocal about fighting anti-Semitism and he was grateful when Gov. Greg Abbott stated any anti-Jewish encampments on public campuses would not be allowed.
No group of people on the West Texas A&M University campus will be disparaged as long as he’s the university president, Wendler said.
