“Can You Hear Me Now?” is the faith-based documentary by Matthew Thayer that explores if biblical prophecy and real prophets still exist in modern times.
What the filmmaker couldn’t have known is his interview with Kirk, two weeks before his murder, was likely Kirk’s final interview before he was killed Sept. 10, 2025.
The interview was conducted at Turning Point USA’s national headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona.
Describing the interview on American Family Radio, Thayer said Kirk was energetic and happy, because he had been traveling and he was finally back home.
“Charlie was amazing,” the filmmaker recalled. “We had about a 45-minute interview with him, and he was extraordinary. It was probably the best interview that I've ever done.”
In the documentary trailer, Kirk remarks that some people “absolutely” have the biblical gift of prophecy, but then he urges people to not use that as an excuse to not get involved in politics and the culture battle.
“A word from a prophet should never be an excuse for inaction or apathy,” Kirk states.
On the UVA campus, Kirk was participating in Turning Point’s first stop on its “American Comeback Tour” across the nation. He had been speaking for only 10 minutes, with a crowd of thousands around him, when an assassin’s bullet ripped through his neck.
Christian apologist Frank Turek, who was standing near Kirk that morning, has said his friend died on the way to the emergency room.
Footage of Kirk’s murder is included in the documentary, where Thayer tells the audience the interview happened “two weeks to the minute” before the TPUSA leader was killed.
“Can You Hear Me Now?” will debut Sept. 24 on SalemNOW, the streaming platform for Salem Media.
