The communications were obtained by Daily Wire through public records requests.
The fact that WPATH officials are discussing the need for clinical guidelines and medical protocols is big because WPATH is the world's preeminent transgender medical organization and a leading voice in the push for minors to get medications and surgical procedures for the purposes of a so-called gender transition.
Talking about this on the "Washington Watch" program, Dr. Quentin Van Meter, a pediatric endocrinologist and former president of the American College of Pediatricians, said WPATH was trying to cover itself.
"There are these kids that are now in young adulthood suffering greatly and they cannot get care," he said. "So, their idea is, oops, we better cover ourselves and start trying to develop a de-transitioner guideline set, because we otherwise will be told that we've harmed people irreparably, and it wasn't reversible, which it is not."
In a consumer protection lawsuit, the Federal Trade Commission and the attorneys general from three states sued WPATH earlier this summer. The lawsuit alleges WPATH members betrayed their Hippocratic Oath by putting profit ahead of their patients, who are children, based on a promise they were helping them through difficult times.
The states who are co-plaintiffs in the lawsuit are Alaska, Iowa, Nebraska, and Texas.
People who have undergone such procedures, such as de-transitioner Chloe Cole, have said her worried parents were given the “live boy or dead girl” warning from doctors that led to her undergoing a mastectomy as a teenager.
Whereas transgender ideology saw a spike in recent years, affecting everything from children’s books and state laws to high school athletics, the FTC lawsuit maintains WPATH committed fraud through its profit-driven motive that counseled children and parents, and prescribed body-changing hormones.
In response to the FTC lawsuit, WPATH claimed it’s been a victim of an overreaching federal government and said it’s defending its First Amendment rights.
Van Meter says that WPATH must be taken down from the outside.
"They will not take themselves down from the inside. They have to be recognized worldwide for the sham that they are," he said. "What we know, and what science has said, is that it's absolutely impossible to change your sex, and that it causes irreparable damage that causes long-term medical morbidity. We need to have the WPATH essentially dissolved as an entity."
