When Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform U.K. party, stepped down from his seat in Parliament, it triggered a by-election. His resignation followed after increased scrutiny due to an investigation into a 5 million pounds gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne.
Farage immediately entered the by-election for his old seat and is framing the current race as a "people versus the establishment" contest.
However, none of the other major political parties of the U.K. have bothered to put up a candidate to run against Farage. This leaves one man standing between him and reclaiming his seat as a member of Parliament for the Essex town of Clacton.
That man is Count Binface.
“But boy you got a friend in Binface. Democracy is in trouble. You all need someone who makes some sense. I pledge all 99 Flake Ice cream will only cost 99 pence,” said Count Binface in a past campaign video for the Makerfield by-election.
Count Binface is played by British comedian Jonathan David Harvey, who has been entering elections as joke candidates since 2017. Binface says he is from the planet Sigma Nine, and leader of the Recyclons.
He has contested in several high-profile elections, including standing against Boris Johnson and finishing ninth in the London Mayoral Election with nearly 93,000 votes.
He was interviewed by BBC News, where he made his pledge to voters.
“Building at least one affordable house, nationalizing Adelle, bring back Ceefax and, of course, moving the hand dryer in the gents toilet in the Crown & Treaty Pub Oxbridge to a more sensible position because as you know, it's a national issue,” Count Binface said.
The Clacton by-election will take place in August.
