A Hispanic Christian leader says Muslims are seeking to convert Hispanics.

The Houston Chronicle reported in 2024 that the majority of Latinos in Texas were Catholic. However, a 2020 surveys showed that 9% of Muslims in the U.S. were Latino converts.

In fact, the article mentioned how Latino Muslims in Houston celebrated the opening of the only Spanish-language mosque in the U.S.

According to Texas Tribune in 2023, Latinos make up the largest population group in Texas since July 2022. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau revealed that the state’s population is 40.2% Hispanic and 39.9% non-Hispanic white. Latinos approximately outnumber white Texans by about 129,000 people.

Rodriguez, Rev. Samuel (NHCLC) Rodriguez

Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, said the issue of Latino-Muslim converts is a big concern.

"In the past six months, it has emerged as an emerging priority item to address in the Latino evangelical ecosystem that I help oversee. That 75% group of evangelical Latinos, it is a serious concern,” Rodriguez states.

He said Muslims are targeting high schools and colleges and are using social media as well. He said a firewall needs to be built.

"We need to make the Latino community and the American community aware of the fact that Sharia law, without any exaggeration or conspiracy theory, is right around the corner," Rodriguez says.

Schild, Krista Schild

Krista Schild, Texas director for the RAIR Foundation (Rise Align Ignite Reclaim), said that a Muslim author and political activist was to read one of her books at a Texas middle school.  After pushback, the woman did not appear at the school.

"The same Muslim woman has a book series called 'Yasmin,' and she is having it translated into Spanish to reach the kids in our schools in Texas. But the Hispanic community is a particular target of the Muslim because the Hispanic population is the only demographic that is pacing Muslims in childbirth," Schild states.

She said Muslims are trying to deceive people by telling them they "love our Jesus too."
