In the latest salvo of the trade war, Prime Minister Mark Carney has invited 300 top corporate executives to attend the Canada Investment Summit this week. Those investors collectively manage more than $120 trillion dollars in assets, and Carney hopes to use that leverage to reduce Canada’s economic dependence on its biggest trading partner, the United States.
"Canada is about so much more than being next to the United States,” Carney told reporters. “We have what the world wants."
Brian Rushfeldt, a longtime conservative activist, calls Carney a “very, very delusional” politician.
“But he really believes what he's saying,” Rushfeldt added.
Mexico is the largest U.S. trading partner, a rank that might surprise many, and it also might be surprising to learn Canada ranks second. China, with its slave labor and a flood of cheap goods, ranks third, according to statistics overseen by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Rushfeldt points out a Canadian economist, Ian Lee, has been critical of Carney’s plan to cut off or reduce trade with the United States.
“He points out how many billions of dollars of goods that we ship out of Canada to the U.S. that we don't ship anywhere else,” Rushfeldt shares.
Lee, an associate professor at Carleton University, has flatly warned Canada can’t win a trade war since its $400 billion in annual exports to the United States constitutes only 1.5% of GDP in the U.S.
If those exports stop, according to Lee, more than a thousand Canadian companies would quickly go bankrupt if their products are not being shipped.
Rushfeldt, who has been alarmed for years by Canada’s globalist agenda, tells AFN he suspects there is another motive underway. Carney sees himself as the potential ruler of the “new world order” rather than a Canadian, he warned.
