The university's softball team has been taking the sports world by storm. The Bulldogs recently shocked the country's biggest softball dynasty, the Oklahoma Sooners, winning the Norman Super Regional to advance to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Senior outfielder Morgan Bernardini recently told WFCA Radio sports manager Jason Crowder that she and her team members have relied on their faith in Jesus to grow on and off the field.
"We just kept reminding each other we're here for a reason and this isn't a mistake," she said. "Our story is already written. No matter if we win or lose this game, at the end of the day, we're all daughters in Christ, and our job is to be disciples, to grow our faith, to spread His name, to spread His Word, and to continue to show the world the light of Jesus."
Bernardini is hitting .253 with 29 RBIs and four home runs this season. One of those home runs came in Game 3 of the Super Regional against Oklahoma, which grew the lead to 6-0 in the fifth and helped the Bulldogs complete the historic upset.
She also expressed gratitude to the Lord for giving her this platform.
"I'm just so grateful to be able to ... glorify Him as we are taking this journey," the outfielder told Crowder.
No. 20 Mississippi State dropped its first game in Oklahoma City against No. 4 Texas Tech on Thursday, falling 8-0 in a run-rule loss at Devon Park. The Red Raiders opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first. They plated two more runs in the second before scoring four with the help of two errors in the fifth.
The Bulldogs will play in tonight's elimination game at 6 p.m. Central time against No. 6 Texas. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and streamed on the ESPN app.
