But leave it to the Associated Press to stress over the fact that the athletes are overwhelmingly white.
Woke may be on the way out, but it hasn't left the building just yet, as AP demonstrates in this video story:
“Immigration from Africa and the Middle East is changing the demographics of Europe's top winter sports countries, but that hasn't really translated to their largely white rosters heading to the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics,” the voice says.
The AP is apparently upset that the liberal immigration policies that are widely being blamed for the downfall of Western Europe haven't born fruit quickly enough in one Scandinavian country.
“Team Sweden is almost entirely made up of ethnically Swedish athletes, which is hardly a reflection of the country's diversity, as Sweden has welcomed historic numbers of asylum seekers in recent decades.”
Tim Graham of Media Research Center says the Winter Olympics is a stubborn holdover that is resisting Critical Race Theory – or rather, puts the lie to the Marxist trope.
“If you want to obsess over race, you could pretty much show up at every Winter Olympics and say too many of the athletes are white,” he said.
And the reason is fairly obvious.
“They don't have downhill slalom slopes in Ethiopia,” Graham said.
Filmmaker and Heritage fellow Robby Starbuck suggests that AP look around the sports world. “Wait till you guys find out about the racial demographics in the NBA or on NFL defenses,” he writes.
Graham points out that the diversity quotas don't seem to bend the other way.
“It's not like everybody shows up to the Olympic marathon and there's not enough white folks in the marathon.”
