God. Family. Football. follows the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles of Shreveport, Louisiana and the return, after a long retirement, of their championship coach Denny Duron (shown above). Season three premiered last night.
“Alright, everybody look right here. I'm raising you to be men. You're going to have a lot of disappointments in life. You just gotta keep moving forward,” Duron is heard encouraging his players in the series trailer.
The program has boasted 14 state championships and one national championship, but even with the success, Duron, who is also the pastor of a Shreveport church, tells Fox and Friends the priorities have not changed.
“I think that everything is based in our love for God, our faith, and our love for family. We have become a family as a football team,” he said.
The football program is a lifeline to some of the athletically gifted teenagers from the poorer communities in Shreveport. Duron wants to give them more than football skills.
“They crawl out of some difficult places in the morning to come to our school. And when they walk on campus, we're going to love them. They're going to hear that word a lot. I mean, imagine your high school coach saying, 'hey, I love you, son.' I mean, what does that mean?” Duron asks.
Starting quarterback Peyton Houston has experienced that love.
“It is a brotherhood there. No matter where you come from, what background you have, when you get into that locker room it's just family.”
