For more than four decades Steve McConkey of 4 WINDS Christian Athletics has been attending this and other athletic events in order to share the gospel with athletes. He says his strategies vary depending on the athlete.
“Sometimes we'll just come right out and talk to the athletes right away about their state eternally and just ask them if they know Christ. Usually what I try to do is I'll ask them if in a deep conversation, if you were to die tonight, what would happen? And I try not to be morbid, but at the same time, point him to the Lord."

The track and field events will be held in Eugene, Oregon, at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field July 30 through August 4th.
The trials will serve as the qualifying event for the 2025 World Athletic Championships in Tokyo as well as the Para Athletics World Championships.
The meet could attract between 500 and 600 athletes.
It's not uncommon for follow-up visits to offer a greater witnessing opportunity, McConkey said.
"So we're looking forward to it. We talk to the athletes, share with the athletes, the gospel, and it’s a fun time. There are different levels of witnessing. Sometimes we will witness just briefly, and then other times we'll see a person the following year and get deeper into detail."
