An advocate for legislation that honors God is not sure the Kansas House has enough votes to override the governor's veto of a bill designed to protect female athletes.

Brittany Jones of Kansas Family Voice says the Fairness in Women's Sports Act to prevent males from participating in female sports was passed by both houses of the Kansas Legislature but got no further than Governor Laura Kelly's (D) desk.

"The governor, in a show of disdain for families and for girls, vetoed the Fairness in Women's Sports Act," Jones reports "This is just a repeat of her continued disrespect for people of faith and for family values."

Title IX of the federal Education Amendments of 1972 was designed to give girls a fair shake in sports. In part, the federal rule guarantees keeping boys and girls separate in sports.

"You've got radical feminists, you've got Christian conservatives and all sorts of people in between who actually support Title IX and support the Fairness in Women's Sports Act," Jones notes. "It is the height of hypocrisy for Laura Kelly and for others who claim to be feminists to reject this law."

While the Kansas Senate has enough votes for an override, support in the lower chamber is likely a few votes short.
