Parts of country are briefly reverting back to summer weather, expect to break apart later

Fall weather is on its way late this week for a large part of the country.

Before the much cooler weather arrives, summerlike temperatures will hold on in the Southern Plains, Midsouth and Southeast, reports Fox Weather.

The Fox Weather Team talked about the big change that’s coming, but until then, Craig Herrera emphasized the extreme warmth.

“We've got several locations that could be setting some records, records that have been up since — I don't know — the 1800s. These records have been long standing,” Herrera says.

For example, he looked at the forecasts on Monday for Concordia, Kansas, Indianapolis, Indiana, and St. Louis, Missouri. Concordia reached up to 94 degrees when the last highest temperature was 93 degrees in 1899. Furthermore, Indianapolis reached 85 degrees, up from 86 degrees in 1879, and St. Louis reached 92 degrees, up from 89 degrees in 1890.

Overall, there have been over 40-plus new records nationwide.

A cold front, Herrera said, will eventually push through, and temperatures will rapidly decline by 50 degrees. This is expected to happen around the middle of the week or into the weekend.

Fox forecaster Steven Morgan noted how areas east of the Rocky Mountains are cooling down, while west of the Rockies are heating up. He also mentioned that areas, like Montana, already have snow predictions.

Marissa Torres followed up, noting the temperature departure.

“We look at the deeper shades of blue. That means you’re a little bit further below average than where you typically are. For some of you and through the plains, especially in the Midwest, it’s big dramatic swings from being well above to well below. That always aids in the narrative of that big turn where we talked about a 40-50 degree drop.”

Herrera said that it’ll be “sweater weather” during the weekend as its going to turn rather cold. Some early morning temperatures in the Southeast are forecast to be in the 40s this coming weekend.
