Freezing temperatures still in play this upcoming weekend

Another Arctic blast is headed for the U.S. late this week.

At the very least, very cold air will be the main issue for many. However, some places could see winter precipitation along the Southeast U.S. coastline and along the East Coast.

There has been some uncertainty about the system's formation.

The National Weather Service posted on X that overnight low temperatures for many places in the Midwest to the Northeast are forecast to continue to be below zero over the weekend. They also said that they expect well below normal temperatures for the eastern U.S. into the middle of next week.

Fox Weather says that New York, Philadelphia, and Boston could be on track to see another major system on the heels of the last. The Northeast will experience Arctic temperatures because of a trough in the jet steam over the eastern U.S. New York and Boston experienced over 11 inches and topped 20 inches of snow respectively, and the incoming temperatures will refreeze any ice and snow in the northeast areas.

Spann, James (meterologist) Spann

ABC 33/40's James Spann says that it will be cold in the South and Alabama. He explains in his daily morning weather brief that the new surge of cold air coming through is a big deal.

"Now, as that thing makes the turn and goes up the East Coast, a surface flow begins to deepen off the coast of North Carolina, off the Outer Banks. And that could bring some decent snow to eastern North Carolina and the Tidewater region of Virginia on Saturday,” states Spann.

He informs that there will be temperatures below freezing all day pretty much statewide.

“I mean, even Mobile, they're going to struggle to reach the mid-30s. North Alabama highs in the mid-20s, maybe low 20s for the Tennessee Valley. Those are highs on Saturday after starting off in the teens," says Spann.
