Surrounded by other abortion-supporting women, Gov. Maura Healey on Monday signed legislation that permits abortions up to nine months of pregnancy.
The current law in Massachusetts allows abortions up to 24 weeks, which is 5 ½ months into a pregnancy, but that law was already considered weak and permissive since it allowed exceptions at 25 weeks and beyond, according to pro-life website LifeNews.
Abortion is a like a sacred freedom to liberal Democrats, especially to female Democrats such as Gov. Healey, who was all-smiles at the bill signing.
Pro-life leader Myrna Maloney Flynn, who leads Massachusetts Citizens for Life, told American Family News it was “sickening” to see women celebrating abortion at the bill signing.
“The smiles, the cheers, the utter joy on the faces of legislators and the bill's sponsors around the Governor,” Flynn recalled. “And the Governor herself just having this air of authority over so much darkness."
Footage of the bill signing, and the celebratory mood in the room, was also noticed by many others, too.
“Modern feminism is a religion,” Brett Weinstein, the author and biology professor, wrote in an X post. “It regards abortion as a virtue. This is a ‘win.’”
It was also pointed out by many angered Catholics that Gov. Healey is a practicing Catholic, who is an open lesbian, and who once talked about caring for the “most vulnerable among us” when she visited Pope Francis at the Vatican in 2024.
“The lesbian ‘Catholic’ baby killer,” one X user wrote.
In a detailed X post, conservative Catholic radio host Doug Billings wrote that Healey’s bill signing raises a “legitimate question” over what “Catholic” really means.
Gov. Healey has the right to reject Catholic teachings, he wrote, but Catholics have “every right to ask their shepherds where the line is when a Catholic public official uses the power of government to enact something the bishops themselves have called gravely immoral.”
Regarding the new law itself, Billings pointed out it’s not “hyperbole” to suggest Massachusetts is now allowing late-term abortions without limits.
When the law takes effect in 90 days, Massachusetts will become the tenth U.S. state to put a no-gestational limit on abortion.
