Another state signs law requiring abortion medication on college campuses

Colorado is joining other states in requiring abortion medication be available to students on college campuses in their state.

In the state of Colorado, Gov. Jared Polis has signed a bill into law mandating that all colleges and universities provide abortion pills to their students, reports The College Fix. AFN reported previously on this bill when it passed in the state’s General Assembly heading for the state Senate.

House Bill 26-1335 will require any campus that has a pharmacy to stock abortion medications, as well as requiring campuses that don't have a pharmacy to provide prescriptions that can be filled by a local one.

Colorado is not the only state to pass such a law. California, New York, Illinois and Massachusetts all have similar laws. Several universities, including the University of Oregon, have also taken upon themselves without the direction of state law to offer abortion medication to students.

Matt Lamb is the associate editor at The College Fix. He notes that abortion drugs, while dangerous everywhere, are particularly dangerous on college campuses.

“There are also some serious problems with having a 19-year-old take some drugs back to her dorm and not really having a clear idea of how much bleeding is normal and what exactly she is looking for,” Lamb says.

He states that many universities don't have the ultrasound equipment to determine how far along a pregnancy is or to spot an ectopic pregnancy. If the drugs are taken during an ectopic pregnancy, he says the results could be fatal.

Blue state lawmakers have been trying to secure their state's rights to an abortion, making them widely accessible in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. Lamb affirms that the Democrat party’s goal is to make abortion as available as possible across the U.S.

If the party spent a little time helping women and families, he says then a lot more lives would be saved.

“If the Democratic party and the left put 10% of the energy into helping women and helping families that they do dreaming up ways to kill babies, we could probably save a lot more lives and have a lot less poverty,” Lamb states.
