A course at the University of Florida explores the social construction of reproductive values.

Campus Reform reported that the title of this upper division sociology course is titled Sociology of Reproduction and Gender. The course is available during the spring semester from January to April, and the credit counts for general education requirements and toward a sociology major.

The purpose of the class it to view reproduction through gender and gender-identity frameworks. Major assignments, according to the syllabus, have students apply those frameworks to their experiences. Abortion, infertility, and non-heterosexual parenthood are some of the topics covered.

Jessica Ogrin, Texas correspondent for Campus Reform and a student at Southern Methodist University, spoke with AFN. She said that this is a sociology course which is framing human reproduction as a matter of social interpretation rather than a biological fact.

"That's something that students often learn in middle school. So, the fact that I'm having to get on radio to talk about this is ridiculous, but here we are in 2026," says Ogrin.

Ogrin added that this is part of a much broader trend at schools in red states and blue states.

"If this is happening at Florida, I can't even imagine what classes at Harvard or Yale are like," said Ogrin. "Hopefully, my generation pushes back on it."

When asked what students should do about these kinds of classes, Ogrin recommended just avoiding courses like this if it is possible. If someone can't, she urged students to speak to administration or a local policymaker.

"The other unfortunate part is there are professors out there that will fail you if they disagree with your opinion,” states Ogrin. “Not only does it limit conservative students' voices and make them want to speak out less, there's also the dangerous implications of doctors leaving college thinking that they can perform a surgery that can only be done on a female on a male.”
