Frustrated pro-lifers demand Trump admin take action on abortion pill

Demanding an end to loose regulations for the abortion pill, pro-lifers are calling on the Trump administration to end Biden-era pro-abortion policy at the Food and Drug Administration.

That demand came Wednesday at a Capitol Hill press conference that featured lawmakers, attorneys general, and special interest groups.

The warning, repeated by many, is abortion-supporting Biden administration opened the door to loose regulations for abortion pills that are terribly dangerous for pregnant women who take them.

The abortion pill is actually a two-step procedure that includes mifepristone and a second pill, misoprostol. Mifepristone is taken first to block the pregnancy hormone progesterone, which detaches the fetus from the uterus. After taking misoprostol, the woman’s body mimics birth contractions and forces the uterus to expel the fetus.

During his time at the podium, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) said there are more abortions committed today in the United States than when Roe v Wade was the law of the land.

"Why is that?" Hawley asked. "It's because of the chemical abortion drug mifepristone."

In the landmark Dobbs ruling, the Supreme Court overturned Roe in 2022 and sent the issue of abortion back to the states. When that ruling shook up state-law abortion laws, it also created a demand for easier access to abortion.

Despite the obvious danger of side effects and documentation of emergency room visits, rabid abortion supporters often compare the abortion pill to taking Tylenol for a headache.

Last year, the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) published a study warning that one in ten women experiences a "serious adverse event" after taking the abortion pill.

"This is quite different than Tylenol," Sen. Bill Cassidy, a physician, warned.  “Aside from the child that dies, there is a risk of complications of the mother's part, complications which can be severe."

Also last year, Attorney General Dave Yost (R-Ohio) was told by HHs Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that he would review abortion drugs. To date, that review has not been completed, prompting Yost to make a remark directed at Kennedy.

"We're coming up on a year," said Yost. "I ask you to expedite this thing and live up to your promise."

Victoria Cobb, president of Family Foundation of Virginia, said this is not about ideology. Instead, Cobb said it is about saving the lives of babies and women who do not know the truth about dangerous chemical abortion drugs.

"They deserve the truth when they make these kinds of decisions," said Cobb. "They might make a decision I would not make, but they deserve the truth for their own safety."

Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council, invited Americans to join in the call for the FDA to end Biden-era abortion drug policies.

"They can make their voices heard by texting LIFE to 67742 and signing the petition calling on the FDA to act," said Perkins.
