Chemical abortions kill … but they also possibly contaminate

A Florida-based organization has published a report expressing concern that the byproducts of chemical abortions might be contaminating public drinking water systems.

(Caution: This story contains descriptions that some may find offensive.)

Talking to Washington Watch on Tuesday, John Stemberger of Liberty Counsel Action pointed out that over 70% of abortions are done chemically. "The vast majority of abortions are done by a woman taking this pill [mifepristone], putting it in her mouth, [then] literally [and] traumatically seeing the baby enter the toilet," he described.

He went on to explain that the remains from these abortions can contaminate the general public's drinking water, citing an estimate from Students for Life of America that 30 to 40 tons of chemically tainted "medical waste" have entered wastewater treatment plants.

"I hate to use that term [medical waste] because I don't want to devalue the human dignity of that child, but that's human waste, that's biohazard waste, that's medical waste going into toilets, going into sewer systems, going into septic tanks – and ultimately going into the water systems that actually process our drinking water," said Stemberger.

"We don't know what the impact of this is," he continued. "We know that these wastewater plants are not designed to handle human remains. But there's several reports of them finding fetal remains in there."

And there's another factor, according to Stemberger: the lethal effects of the chemicals used in these at-home abortions.

"The second problem is this mifepristone. This becomes an active metabolite, which means it doesn't dissolve in the woman's body completely. It has a lifespan – it's a lethal drug, which actually attacks progesterone and kills the baby."

Liberty Counsel Action is encouraging the public to lobby and/or contact three federal entities to express their concern: Congress, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
