EPPC catches Kennedy's attention

Pro-lifers are glad that the health secretary has asked the FDA to review the abortion pill.

Mifepristone is a drug that blocks progesterone, a hormone that is necessary for a pregnancy to continue. When used together with another medicine called misoprostol, mifepristone terminates a pregnancy.

The Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) review of the medication comes after the Ethics & Public Policy Center (EPPC) found that nearly 11% of women who take the life-ending medication experience severe adverse health events like sepsis, hemorrhaging, and infection.

That is 22 times more frequent than the FDA currently recognizes.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the review last week during a hearing with senators, including Republican Josh Hawley of Missouri.

"I've asked Marty Makary, who is director of FDA, to do a complete review and to report back," said Kennedy.

LifeNews' Steven Ertelt, who joined Susan B. Anthony Pro Life America, National Right to Life, and Live Action in calling for changes following the EPPC study, is glad for that.

"With this information at hand, there's absolutely no reason that the abortion pill should be on the market; or if it's on the market, there's no reason it shouldn't have major warnings associated with it," Ertelt tells AFN. "President Trump has the ability with the FDA to put real limits on this abortion drug so women are not injured, babies are not killed. We have to act on this information, and we have to do it now."

According to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, more than 63% of abortions in the United States are performed using medication abortion.

EPPC looked at insurance claims from 2017 through 2023 to conduct its study, which is highly criticized by abortion advocates and the mainstream media.
