Swimming in stream of tax dollars, Planned Parenthood set new record for aborted babies

After abortion giant Planned Parenthood released its annual report, a pro-life researcher calls it well-timed evidence for Congress to finally separate tax dollars from the baby-killing group.

In its most recent report, which looked at 2023, Planned Parenthood reported performing 402,230 abortions in one year. That is an increase of 2.4% from the previous year and an all-time record for the nation's leading abortion mill.

Planned Parenthood also reported it received more than $792 million in taxpayer funds. That, too, is an increase from the previous year as the Biden administration, which campaigned for reelection under Biden, then Kamala Harris, on "reproductive rights," increased Planned Parenthood funding by 13%.

Taxpayer dollars for Planned Parenthood represented about 39% of its annual revenue in 2023.

Katie Brown Xavios, who leads American Life League, tells AFN she can't forget the report from Planned Parenthood came right after Mother's Day.

"I don't think there's any coincidences with Planned Parenthood," she insists. "So the fact that they released this the day after Mother's Day is just kind of, I think, a laugh in the face at pro-lifers."

At the same time Planned Parenthood is performing more abortions, and getting more money from American taxpayers, pro-life activist Dr. Michael New says others health services have declined.

"Cancer screenings fell by over 8%. Primary care visits fell by over 13%. UTI treatments fell by over 45%," New, citing the report’s own figures, tells AFN.

Listing all of its non-abortion services has been a key marketing strategy for Planned Parenthood.

Going back even farther, to clinic figures from a decade ago, New says internal reports show prenatal care has plummeted by 62% and cancer screenings have fallen 54%.

The numbers seem to imply these services are de-emphasized, but pointing toward these services allows Planned Parenthood to paint a picture that the organization is worthy of its millions in taxpayer funding.

House GOP runs from defunding push

According to New, a senior associate scholar at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, the annual report gives the Republican-controlled Congress a “unique opportunity" to defund Planned Parenthood through budget reconciliation.

The problem with that plan, however, is the Republican Party itself. With a narrow majority in the U.S. House, some so-called moderate Republican lawmakers have publicly stated they oppose stripping Planned Parenthood of taxpayer funding in the budget negotiations.

“I don’t think we need to touch Planned Parenthood in this reconciliation bill,” Rep. Nick LaLota, a New York Republican, told reporters last week.

For many Americans who are pro-life and vote that way, watching the GOP balk over defunding Planned Parenthood sounds like a betrayal. With a pro-life platform, the Republican Party has called defunding Planned Parenthood a top priority going back years.

New, Dr. Michael New

According to New, who has tracked abortion and politics for decades, the pro-life movement first floated the idea of defunding the abortion giant in the early 2000s. He credits undercover videos in 2008, produced by Lila Rose and Live Action, for making it a “mainstream” issue among GOP politicians.

Citing the latest annual report, and the ones before it, New says Capitol Hill can see the federal government is shoveling money at Planned Parenthood only to get more aborted babies and less and less health care.

"That's a good argument for defunding them,” he insists, “so we need to just keep this support at the forefront and give this information to our elected officials."
