OBGYNs plentiful in pro-life states in spite of fearmongering from the Left

A new study finds that OBGYNs are not leaving states with pro-life laws.

The research was published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA).

The authors looked at physicians' practice locations before and after the Dobbs decision. That is the decision that led to the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade.

Researchers found that the number of practicing OBGYNs increased by 8.3% in states were abortion is banned, and 10.5% in states where abortion is threatened.

In states where abortion is legally protected, the number of OBGYNs increased by only 7.7 percent.

"Supporters of legal abortion are always trying to scare pro-life people, and they're always claiming that if you pass pro-life laws, all these terrible things will happen, and one thing they've claimed is that if you pass pro-life laws, OBGYNs will flee pro-life states and women and girls will not get the healthcare or medical attention that they need this study stage debunks that," Michael New, an assistant professor of practice at the Busch School of Business at the Catholic University of America and a senior associate scholar at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, told AFN.

New wrote a related article about this for National Review.

"There has been an increase in practicing OGBYNs in states with pro-life laws and actually a bigger increase in pro-life states than states where abortion is legal," he told AFN. "So, people have nothing to worry about, there is not going to be you know OBGYNs vanishing because strong pro-life laws are effect."

New praised JAMA for its willingness to make the numbers available to readers.

“In recent years, academic journals have become more politicized. The authors and JAMA Open Network deserve credit for publishing this study. That said, aside from CNN.com and a few online public health publications, no other media outlets have covered this study. However, this too is unsurprising. Mainstream media typically provide scant coverage of studies that contradict talking points issued by pro-abortion groups,” he wrote in National Review.
