David Bereit, executive director of the new Life Leadership Conference, recently told EWTN's "Pro-Life Weekly" program that since the Dobbs decision reversed Roe v. Wade two and a half years ago, sending the decision about abortion back to the American people through our elected officials, "we've had this seismic shift in the landscape of the pro-life movement to where … we have 50 unique state-by-state battles."

"Regrettably," he noted, "we still see abortions numbering well over one million per year – children dying, women being wounded. We see people flooding across state borders from pro-life states to pro-abortion states. We see the proliferation of abortion pills. And in the midst of this, we can't keep operating as a movement in the pre-Dobbs world."
He said pro-lifers in this "beautiful tapestry" of "organic growth" of independent pro-life organizations, leaders, and efforts need focus on how to operate in this post-Roe landscape.
"When we don't work together, it actually dilutes our overall impact," said Bereit, founder of 40 Days for Life and a member of Equal Rights Institute's board of advisors. "It's more important than ever before that we strategically coordinate."
The Life Leadership Conference was formed out of the desire to work together more cohesively – to strategize, mobilize together, coordinate efforts, and fund and develop them so they can achieve greater impact.
Bereit said the Life Leadership Conference is still finalizing its membership criteria, but the coalition will hopefully include major pro-life nonprofits as well as newer and emerging pro-life leaders.
