A pro-life watchdog is excited about President-elect Trump's new Department of Government Efficiency, particularly its plans for Planned Parenthood.

American Life League (ALL) President Katie Brown says part of the department's tentative plan for 2025 is to defund all federal expenditures that Congress has not authorized.

"Trump's budget-belt tighteners, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, are targeting the abortion giant as part of plans to take aim at the $500 billion-plus in annual federal expenditures that are unauthorized by Congress," an ALL press release relays.

Brown, Katie (ALL) Brown

"American Life League has been tracking Planned Parenthood federal tax dollars since the '80s, when they first started receiving federal funding, and every single year, it's continued to go up by millions and millions of dollars," Brown tells AFN. "In 2023, they received just about $670 million in taxpayer funding."

Her team continues to highlight the "obscene amount" of tax money that is going to the nation's largest provider of abortions.

"We're federally funding baby killing," Brown summarizes. "We're just hoping that this is something that they take very seriously. There's always been a lot of promise about people wanting to defund Planned Parenthood at the federal level, but we've really never seen a follow through."

Since 1977, the Hyde Amendment has banned the use of any federal funds for abortion, only allowing exceptions to pay for terminating pregnancies that endanger the life of the mother or that result from rape or incest. Still, in the 2014-2015 fiscal year, for example, about 43% of Planned Parenthood revenues came from government reimbursements or grants.

As a nonprofit, Planned Parenthood is required to provide some budget data to the IRS, but those forms do not require detailing specific revenue categories. The provider maintains that abortions only account for about 3% of its services.
