Abortion supporters are applauding a study that links tough pro-life laws to a rise in homicides of women, but a pro-life activist says the other side is still pulling the same old tricks.

Researchers associated with Tulane University published a study in Health Affairs that ties enforcement of “anti-abortion” laws with increased homicide rates of pregnant women and girls ages 10 to 44. The study covers a six-year period before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe vs Wade and moved the issue to state legislatures.

Laura Echevarria of the National Right to Life Committee tells AFN the conclusion is flawed and wrong.

“They're basically saying that because women cannot get access to unlimited abortion whenever, wherever, and for whatever reason,” she says, “that that's the reason why women are put at risk.”

The grim reality of abortion, Echevarria says, is that pregnant women are often hurt by a boyfriend or abuser who demands they seek an abortion.

“Across the board we're seeing this over and over and over again,” she warns, “where the abortion industry is putting forward inaccurate information, misinformation, trying to make it sound like women will die if they don't have access to abortion. And that's patently untrue.”
