After a heartbeat bill effectively banned abortions in The Volunteer State last year, millions of federal dollars in Title X funds are being diverted from the Tennessee Department of Health to the nation’s biggest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.
Title X funding, which dates back to the 1970s, offers family planning services but prohibits funds for abortions. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Will Brewer of Tennessee Right to Life tells AFN the state is being punished because the legislature took dollars from Planned Parenthood in 2018. That happened when a new funding mechanism sent dollars to comprehensive health care providers, which meant they did not go to Big Abortion.
The federal government's new "pathway" for funding means $3.9 million will be diverted to Planned Parenthood clinics in Tennessee through the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood, according to The Commercial Appeal newspaper.
“This is the federal ballgame,” Brewer complains. “This is Washington, D.C. infiltrating money that should rightfully go to benefit Tennesseans, and Tennesseans should be the ones to say where that money goes.”
