Congress can hit back at Biden admin over VA abortion plan

A pro-life group is urging Congress to use the power of the purse to stop the Biden administration and its plan to perform abortions at Veterans Administration hospitals across the country.

After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, the Biden administration has been working feverishly to promote abortions, including in federal VA facilities that are located in pro-life states.

Jennifer Popik of the National Right to Life Committee tells AFN doing so is illegal because a 1992 federal law blocks abortions in those medical facilities.

“So now the Biden administration is claiming, now that unborn babies are being protected in certain states, that they need to turn VA centers into abortion facilities,” she explains. “And it’s for veterans, for their family members, for their dependents.”

Popik says it appears the only hope for forcing the Biden administration to follow the law is to take action over the federal budget for the Veterans Administration, such as a budget line for hiring abortionists.

“So I think the way Congress could really get at this in the quickest way,” she advises, “is to withhold the money for that, for this specific change, that Biden is trying to push.”
