The state of Arkansas sits on top of the list compiled by Americans United for Life. It marks the third year in a row for The Natural State, and Jerry Cox of Family Council says it’s an honor for pro-lifers there.
“It's not just about limiting abortion,” he tells AFN, “but it's about respecting human life from conception all the way through natural death.”
In the face of life-ending euthanasia laws, Cox says, the pro-life community in Arkansas has expanded its life-affirming message to include protecting the dignity of middle-aged and elderly Arkansans in their latter years of life.
For its “Life List” of states, AUL reviews state-level issues for abortion, legal recognition of the unborn, conscience rights in health care, and assisted suicide laws. A state’s culture and political landscape are factors, too, which is possibly why Florida jumped from No. 22 to No. 15 when 2022 came to an end.
Rounding out the top five most pro-life states are Louisiana, Oklahoma, Indiana and Mississippi.
Back in Arkansas, Cox says the state needs a “culture of life” that is so strong future generations view abortion as “unthinkable.”
